Real life is often messy, imperfect, and sometimes disappointing. But then there are those days when it all falls in to place and you think “Yes, I’ve got this” especially when it comes to playing golf. You may not even be aware of how this happened, but it feels good and you want it to continue. The problem is that once you try to make things happen they often become more elusive. If you are serious about working at improving your game you may not be putting your efforts in the right place. There are simple ways to focus and use the internal mind power that controls your thoughts. Trying to change things can be difficult but it doesn’t have to be.
What if you knew how to do the simple things that would bring back that connected feeling where things felt automatic and easy. You’d do them wouldn’t you? Of course you would.
You may read a book or watch the golf channel and get excited about some interesting new tips you’ve just learned. For a few days the new techniques seem to be working and you notice a change. But you step away from the course, put down your clubs and your mind gets busy with other things, it’s normal. Unfortunately you forget the things that worked so well the following week and fall back into the same routine as the last time you played. You might begin racking your brain trying to remember what it was you did so well that helped you birdie that par three last week.
You begin to put pressure on yourself to remember and the knowledge you really want seems to vanish from your mind and you can’t bring it back no matter how hard you try. And if you do this in the middle of your game, on the course, now you are going down a slippery slope of distraction that will cause your mind to wander almost uncontrollably. Once it starts you can cause yourself some serious frustration and your game begins to unravel. With a little luck and some effort you can pull it back together and finish playing without giving up completely. But the frustration can be maddening and you leave the course less satisfied than expected.
Part of the problem is you are working from the wrong part of the brain. It’s not relaxed and natural for you yet so the new ideas have less impact on what’s already been stored in your mind especially when you are in a difficult situation or facing a new problem. You haven’t trained your mind to relax and tap into that good feeling place when you need it most. But it’s a skill that’s available to anyone.
Have you ever wondered how successful athletes master their mental game? They do it by using hypnosis, because hypnosis is the key to creating powerful lasting visualizations in the subconscious mind. When you learn how to use and harness the ability to visualize and create the game you want to play by using the power of your mind you can begin to play a more confident, relaxed, and even more intuitive game.
